Pedro Sánchez is not going to call Alberto Núñez Feijóo to reach a state pact against forest fires. The PSOE blames the PP and vice versa. But beneath the radar of the media narrative, the reality is that the coordination between the Government and the autonomous communities governed by the Popular Party is good, fluid, and sufficient.
This has been expressed both by the regional ministers and the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, at the meeting of the Plenary of the National Civil Protection Council, which was held this Wednesday virtually, by videoconference.
The minister, who connected from the advanced command post in Navalcarnero, began his speech by thanking the communities for their presence and support “in this very tough week, which has caused the national emergency,” according to sources familiar with the content of the meeting who spoke to EL MUNDO.
According to Marlaska, it is “an example of unity between the State and the Autonomous Communities in the face of an unprecedented crisis”. “These are exhausting days but we are showing that we know how to work as a team and respond to what society expects,” he emphasized.
The minister, who spoke a second time at the end of the meeting, highlighted the “good harmony among everyone”. “There were no reproaches or bad manners,” he said. And he concluded by asking the Autonomous Communities to “strengthen anticipation actions, the early adoption of preventive measures,” as well as “awareness and information actions for the inhabitants.”
At the meeting, in addition to the relevant ministers, representatives from the Ministries of Economy, Labor, Ecological Transition, Agriculture, Foreign Affairs, Presidency, Defense, Finance, Transport, Education, Industry, Territorial Policy, Housing, Health, Culture, Science, Equality, Inclusion, Digital Transformation, and Youth were present.
At the beginning, Marlaska reported that since March 24 there have been 35 large forest fires (compared to an average of nine in previous years), 170,000 hectares burned (compared to 30,000 in 2025). In addition, Es-Alert has been activated 160 times since the end of May, and there have been 211 civil protection interventions in 14 communities, he said.
Then, the director of Civil Protection and Emergencies took the floor to report on the agenda. Afterwards, the Ministry of Digital Transformation informed that from their ministry they have analyzed the work of the emergency teams and have identified additional available frequencies for the teams’ radios, which will be made available.
