The National Court requests the Government for the files of the immigrant camp at the port of Ceuta after admitting the appeal of the SUP

The National Court has asked the Ministry of Transport to send it the administrative files on the migrant camp set up in the port of Ceuta to study the appeal by the police union SUP against this facility for security reasons, which has been admitted for processing.

This is done in the decree admitting the appeal for processing, which Efe has accessed, in which the Administrative Litigation Chamber gives the Government a non-extendable period of twenty days to send the documentation.

It also specifies that, in the case of documents declared confidential, these must remain in the Administration’s custody, although “fully available to the court”.

This admission for processing, which does not prejudge the substance of the appeal, comes after the National Court decided last Thursday to reject the urgent precautionary measure requested by the police union to stop the enabling of the port area to house migrants who arrived in the autonomous city during the migration crisis.

After the denial of this precautionary measure and while the Administrative Litigation Chamber studies the substance of the appeal, the Government has continued with its plan to house the migrants and yesterday transferred 1,700 people from the Benítez and El Trampolín beaches to the new temporary center.

In a statement, the SUP police union has defended its thesis on the security risks that this reception device may entail and recalled that the Port Authority of Ceuta initially rejected this location for considering it incompatible with the normal operation of the port, although later State Ports gave a favorable report for reasons of general interest.

Now that the camp is operational, the SUP has assured that it will demand to “know and oversee” the risk assessments, protocols, personnel, and resources planned to guarantee the safety of the police assigned in “a particularly sensitive environment”.

“Our duty as a union is not to wait for an incident to regret it, but to anticipate the risk and protect our colleagues,” they emphasized in the note sent.
