Three days after the massive crossing of Moroccan citizens through Ceuta, the Government continues with the strategy of unloading all responsibility for that migratory avalanche onto Morocco. Thus, this Monday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, answered questions from Spanish Television with two arguments: first, to repeatedly insist that there was “a very unusual activity on social networks” that caused the call effect; and, next, to point out on numerous occasions the “reactionary international” that, according to the head of diplomacy, “came out to spread lies”.
The words of the Minister of Foreign Affairs come one day before the European Union hosts an extraordinary meeting of the Interior ministers of the 27 at the request of the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, to address the migratory phenomenon and the reaction of the countries. Several community members called for strengthening the borders and even proposed closing the Schengen area to protect themselves from the massive arrival of migrants.
Although Minister Albares has assured that “all ministries have done what is in their power,” he has not specified what the mistake was that allowed so many people to enter. On repeated occasions, the head of Spanish diplomacy has pointed to the help of the Moroccan neighbor. “The facts are that from the first moment Morocco offered its collaboration to try to prevent that flow of people and for them to return. And it continues to offer that collaboration so that every last person returns to Morocco,” he assured.
“There was a very unusual activity on social networks that distorted the Supreme Court ruling,” the minister insisted. He also pointed out: “There was a synchronization of the reactionary international that came out to amplify what was happening, and to spread lies. It came out in a coordinated way and very quickly, that will have to be analyzed in the meeting that Spain has requested with all EU partners,” he reflected.

Albares has pointed out that at this moment work is being done on three lines of action: “strengthen the breakwater device to make it difficult for an event of these characteristics to occur; monitor and follow those social networks to understand who is behind moving those hoaxes that the reactionary international came out to move. And, finally, the diplomatic channels with Morocco must be intensified.”
“Without solidarity there is no Europe,” Albares stated, who concluded that “there have been States, Governments, and political parties that have not been up to the task.” The minister directly pointed to Italy, whose Foreign Minister’s words caused the ambassador in Madrid to be called for consultations. Albares, who has recalled on several occasions that precisely the country led by Giorgia Meloni is the one leading the entry of migrant people, said: “I demand and ask for unity.”
