Javier Milei has never agreed with Pedro Sánchez since he was elected president of Argentina. However, he has met with King Felipe VI on numerous occasions since his inauguration, as the liberal leader frequently attends the power transitions of his Ibero-American neighbors, as does Don Felipe.

Last Thursday, the King and the politician met in Cali, where both attended the inauguration of Abelardo de la Espriella. Don Felipe arrived on an express trip from Palma, where his official summer residence is located. As soon as he landed, the Monarch went to the cultural center to hold a meeting with the incoming president. In addition to the president and his wife, the presidential chief of staff, Nicolás Gómez Arenas; and the presidential advisors Joaquín Gutiérrez and Carlos Suárez attended the audience.
After the meeting, which lasted for an hour, Don Felipe was the first to leave the room. Upon exiting, the Monarch ran into Javier Milei who, surprised, exclaimed: “Your Majesty!” at which moment Don Felipe, jokingly, claimed to be the “culprit” of the Argentine’s wait. They proceeded to shake hands and then the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, did the same. Later in the afternoon – Colombian time – the Monarch was seated next to Milei at the inauguration ceremony, and they were seen chatting animatedly at several moments.
Ibero-American Summit
Felipe VI has a personal commitment to inaugurations in Ibero-America and attends all he can since, as a Prince, his father entrusted him with that presence, which one day is expected to be inherited by Leonor as part of her agenda. Nowadays, Don Felipe also has a special interest in attending these events, which lies in personally inviting the leaders to the next Ibero-American Summit, which will be held in Madrid in early November.
The King has sent nominal invitations to various presidents, but those newly coming to power received an invitation on behalf of the country, so Don Felipe, with his presence at these events, takes the opportunity to personally deliver the invitation and remind them of the importance of the ties between Ibero-American countries.
