The Popular Party has reacted with indignation and astonishment after learning the content of the reports declassified by the Government about the migratory avalanche in Ceuta on July 30 and 31. The party spokesperson in Congress, Ester Muñoz, in a press conference accused the President of the Government of having perpetrated “a state lie” and demanded his immediate resignation.
Muñoz expressed her surprise at the fact that Sánchez this very morning in Congress and later in an interview on TVE insisted that there were no concrete data that predicted the massive and illegal entry of almost 80,000 people into the autonomous city. “He has lied to us for 40 days,” she emphasized, “they said there were no reports, that nothing was known and today we know that the CNI contacted the Government delegation in Ceuta, the Civil Guard and even Morocco on the 29th.”
The spokesperson emphasized that as early as July 8, the Civil Guard was requesting reinforcements and suggesting a modification of the Immigration Law to avoid the effects of the Supreme Court ruling. Just a few days later, the PP registered a bill in the Chamber in this regard “which Armengol put in a drawer,” Muñoz pointed out.
On July 29, she continued, “the National Police was already warning of extreme risk” and the president of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas “called Moncloa and the Ministry of the Interior and they did not answer the phone.” For the Popular Party, “the Government is directly responsible for the invasion and the deaths”.
“The President of the Government has lied to us and we know it officially. His dereliction of duty has been willful and only resignation and the dissolution of the Cortes are appropriate. It is not enough for any political official to resign. Sánchez has already made everyone lie for him,” Muñoz said, for whom if what has been declassified is “very serious” it is to be assumed that what has not been made public “is much more so”.
From Vox, its spokesperson in Congress, Pepa Millán, also accused Sánchez of having launched a “criminal lie” and called on the groups in Congress to activate article 102 of the Constitution in order to judge the President of the Government for “treason”.
The leader of the PNV in the Chamber, Maribel Vaquero, described the situation as “very worrying” for the Government. In her opinion, from a first reading of the documents, the “version” that Morocco was behind what happened is “corroborated”.
For his part, the Sumar deputy, Enrique Santiago, chose to support the Government’s reading insisting that from the data collected in the reports the volume of the avalanche could not be inferred and, moreover, he questioned the diligence of the State security forces and intelligence services in transmitting their reports and warnings. Santiago even pointed to the words of the former President of the Government, José María Aznar: “whoever can, let them do it”.
The spokesperson of ERC in the Chamber, Gabriel Rufian, chose to point to the CNI, which he blamed for being against the Government. “A part of the State,” he said, “is against the Government and the Government does not control it”.
