The “countdown“ for the PP begins. Alberto Núñez Feijóo is already looking towards the general elections and is heading straight for “change”. A “profound” change and not a replacement: “It will not be a handover, it will be a thorough clean-up,” said the opposition leader at the political course review event, at the national headquarters in Genoa.
Accompanied by his entire Steering Committee, and one day before the third anniversary of the general elections, the president of the ‘populars’ has promised that his party “will not fail” the citizens who expect this profound change. “Institutional reconstruction is not just about removing those who have corrupted institutions, but about preventing anyone else from being able to do it again,” he solemnized.
“I will run in the elections to rebuild the nation, not to manage its rubble,” Feijóo emphasized. And he will do so with three objectives: “That decency returns to institutions, that the country functions, and that it is once again worth working.” That is: regeneration, management, and economic reforms.
Above all, the first point, at a time when the Executive is being assailed by the 16 alleged corruption scandals it has pending in the courts.

“Everything is a cesspool. Corruption has reached everywhere”. Even, he said, “to the financing of the PSOE” or to “attack opponents”, and to the “very heart of the State”. “Not even the one who for years was presented to us as a moral beacon is spared,” he added during his speech, referring to former president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero. “Without Sánchez’s Government, Zapatero would not have been able to commit crimes”.
That has been one of the central ideas of Feijóo’s assessment: that all cases revolve around Sánchez. “The ground zero of corruption is in La Moncloa and Mr. X is Sánchez himself and his total absence of moral standards,” he assured. “Sánchez is the corrupting political link. We will see everything.” In fact, for Feijóo “it doesn’t matter” if the corruption “occurred with his ignorance or his passive or active participation,” because “the political responsibility is his,” and “the responsibility for it not happening again falls to us, to the PP.” “First Sánchez has to leave La Moncloa,” he pointed out, and then, change everything.
