The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, announced this Wednesday a package of 58 measures for the “unprecedented recovery” of the southwest area of the region affected by the severe fire that has forced the evacuation of tens of thousands of people.
Likewise, Ayuso confirmed that she has requested the activation of the solidarity fund of the European Union, the main community financial instrument to help regions suffering from severe natural disasters.
From that emergency plan, about 15 measures have already been activated in recent days due to the “urgency” of the situation. Now, the Community expands its response to the fire with an injection of 10 million to help elderly and vulnerable people and strengthen psychological care at home.
The water rate will be subsidized at 80% in the affected municipalities, 100% of the donation tax, regardless of the degree of kinship, and 20 million from the PIR will be mobilized to rebuild streets and buildings damaged by the flames. Likewise, temporary fields are being set up for waste collection.
The regional government also launches Avalmadrid aid lines, a comprehensive road recovery plan, and a strategy for clearing and felling the thousands of trees burned by the fires. All regional procedures will be postponed for ten days to facilitate the return to homes of the displaced and the recovery of the first days of each municipality.
