A father and a daughter who reunite after 17 years without seeing each other. The script of ‘El ser querido’, the latest film by Rodrigo Sorogoyen, starring Javier Bardem and Victoria Luengo, revolves around this scene. The film, which was presented in the official section of the Cannes festival, was screened again this Sunday at the closing of the Atlántida Film Festival, the best-known film festival in Palma that for 16 editions has brought unique films to unique locations in the Mallorcan capital. Doña Letizia has become the perfect godmother of the closing, which every year fosters meetings between the Queen and great figures of international cinema.

At nine o’clock in the evening, the Queen arrived at the patio of the Misericordia, the fixed venue for the Festival’s closing. Dressed in a red dress, she was received by the president of the Balearic Islands, Marga Prohens, the mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez Llabrés, and the festival director, Jaume Ripoll.
After a special performance by the singer Júlia Colom, Doña Letizia took the stage to present the AMFF Master of Cinema award to the Oscar-winning French composer Alexandre Desplat, responsible for the Oscar-winning soundtracks of The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) and The Shape of Water (2017), among others. Before screening Sorogoyen’s new film, which will be in theaters on August 26, the jury recognized Carlos Saiz’s work in ‘Lionel’, award for Best Film in the Official Section. The Dama Agustí Villaronga award for best national film went to ‘Mala bèstia’ directed by Bàrbara Farré. The Best Film award in the Trends Section went to ‘Blue Film’, directed by Elliot Turtle. ‘La carn’, by Joan Porcel, won the Best Balearic Feature Film Award and ‘La barraca’ by Júlia Castaño was considered the Best Short Film. Finally, the documentary ‘El ciclo del amor’ by Orlando von Einsiedel received the Audience Award.
