The Spanish Meteorological Agency published this Friday its forecast for the upcoming August 12, the day when a solar eclipse will be visible in Spain, although in some areas there will be total darkness and in others the eclipse will be partial. Aemet will update the forecast daily until that date.
This agency expects that on the day of the eclipse the weather will be marked by a stable situation in most of the country, with predominantly slightly cloudy or clear skies. Only in the Cantabrian area and coastal areas of Galicia and Alborán is it expected that cloudy skies will prevail. However, during the afternoon intervals of developing clouds will form in mountains of the northern peninsula, areas of eastern Andalusia and especially in the eastern third, which may interfere with the viewing of the eclipse.
This cloudiness could bring some isolated storm or shower of little importance in mountain areas of the aforementioned eastern third of the peninsula, with higher probability in the Pyrenees and eastern Betic Systems. In the rest of the Peninsula, Aemet forecasts no precipitation. In the Canary Islands, cloudy skies or intervals of clouds are expected on the northern slopes of the mountainous islands and clear skies elsewhere.

The forecast released this Friday also points out that maximum temperatures will rise slightly to moderately in most of the country, with only the Strait, northern Galicia and Cantabrian areas experiencing slight decreases. With this it is expected to exceed 35 degrees in most of the interior of the Peninsula, except in northern Galicia and the Cantabrian area, as well as in large areas of the Balearic Islands and locally in the Canary Islands. It is even expected to exceed 40 in the Guadalquivir, possibly also in other depressions of the southwest and northeast.
There will be light wind in general in the Peninsula and Balearic Islands, with moderate intervals in the Strait and coasts of Galicia. The south and west components will predominate, except in the Mediterranean and northeastern peninsula where the south and east will prevail, and in Galicia and Cantabrian with north wind. In the Canary Islands, the trade wind will blow with strong intervals and probable very strong gusts in exposed areas.
During August 12 it is expected that the Forest Fire Danger Index (IPIF) in the Peninsula and Balearic Islands will present high levels, being Very High or Extreme in most of the territory except for areas of Galicia, Cantabrian, Murcia and Andalusia at Moderate level. In the Canary Islands, it will generally present a Moderate level.
