A brawl at the end of this past early morning at a concert of the main festival of Sitges (Barcelona) has caused serious public order problems and damage to public property, with no injuries or arrests reported so far.
According to police sources, the events occurred after four in the morning, when a fight broke out between two groups of young people, causing disturbances in the coastal town.
These two groups got involved in a group fight in the Ribera promenade area, which required the intervention of the Mossos d’Esquadra, who deployed Brimo and ARRO units, as well as agents from the Local Police.
During the incidents, some participants confronted the officers and threw objects at them, taking cover behind improvised barricades made with containers and portable toilets. The severity of the disturbances ended up affecting the planned development of the Main Festival events.
The clashes with the Police forced the delay of activities that were scheduled to start early in the morning until the situation could be controlled and the necessary safety conditions guaranteed.
The Sitges City Council has expressed its strong condemnation of the disturbances and violent behavior recorded this early morning, after the Main Festival concert ended at the Ribera promenade and the nightlife establishments closed. The incidents caused serious public order problems and damage to furniture and public roads.
The council has emphasized that the riots will not prevent the continuation of the celebrations. Finally, Sitges has maintained the most representative events of the Sant Bartomeu festival, something the City Council also attributes to the responsibility and collaboration of the participating groups.
