The jurist and politician Josep Maria Trias de Bes, who was a deputy in the Congress with CiU and later with the PP, died on Thursday at the age of 81, according to informed sources.

The farewell ceremony will be held this Saturday morning at the Sant Gervasi funeral home in Barcelona.
Josep Maria Trias de Bes Serra, although born in Madrid (November 19, 1944), belonged to a Barcelona family, and was active in CDC during the leadership years of Jordi Pujol, but switched to the PP (in 1996 he was a candidate in Barcelona and deputy) and, once out of active politics, ended up being a member of UPyD.

He held a law degree from the University of Barcelona and was a lawyer; in 1976 he became a member of the executive and the National Council of CDC, a party where he stayed until 1993, and upon switching to the PP he was a member of the party’s National Executive Committee.
He became vice president of the Congress with CiU (1989-1993), as well as a member of the Board of Directors of RTVE, and after his political career he entered the business sector, where he chaired Transmediterránea (1996-2000).
