Landaluce demands information from the Government about the movements taking place around the Algeciras CIE due to the transfer of Algerians

The mayor of Algeciras, José Ignacio Landaluce, has demanded clear and precise information from the Government of Spain about the movements taking place around the Foreigners’ Internment Center (CIE) in the city, after several buses were detected arriving at the Algeciras port in recent days heading to these facilities.

According to sources consulted by EL MUNDO, these are citizens of Algerian origin who are waiting to complete the procedures for their return to the African country. However, given the situation in Ceuta and that almost fifty migrants have already arrived on the beaches of the Campo de Gibraltar by various methods, they understand the concern.

“When movements of this nature occur and there is no clear explanation from the Government, it is logical that questions, concern, and even certain alarm situations arise among citizens that could be avoided simply by providing information,” said the mayor.

That is why he asks the central government to “abandon the secrecy with which these actions are being carried out and explain to the people of Algeciras what is happening, for what purpose these transfers are being made, and what the CIE of Algeciras is currently being used for.”

Landaluce has made it clear that his request is not intended to interfere with the powers that correspond to the Government in matters of immigration and border control, but to demand “transparency and communication with a city that, due to its geographical and strategic position, directly experiences many of the consequences of the decisions made in this matter.” That is why he insists on asking for clarity on the matter. “We are not asking for anything extraordinary, just information, transparency, and respect towards the citizens. We want to know what our CIE is being used for and what is planned to be done with the people arriving at its facilities,” concludes the mayor.
