The judge extends the asset investigation of Santos Cerdán to the accounts of his wife, his daughter, his sister, and his brother-in-law

The judge of the Koldo case in the National Court has extended the asset investigation around Santos Cerdán to his wife, his daughter, his sister, and his brother-in-law. Ismael Moreno has adopted this decision at the request of the UCO and with the support of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.

Magistrate Ismael Moreno orders five banking entities to provide the Civil Guard unit with data on about thirty bank accounts linked to these relatives, to complete the financial study” of the former PSOE Organization Secretary and his circle.

In their recent asset report on the former PSOE Organization Secretary, investigators concluded that there were “indications pointing to the possible existence of an undeclared alternative source of income.” It added that the indications regarding income received by Cerdán “and his circle” from companies that would have channeled kickbacks attributed to the construction company Acciona had been strengthened.

“Given the above and taking into account that this document has been prepared considering only the financial products in which Santos Cerdán appears or has appeared as owner or authorized person, in view of the close relationship with people in his family circle such as his wife Francisca Muñoz Cano, his daughter Alba Cerdán Muñoz, his sister María Belén Cerdán León and his brother-in-law Antonio Muños Cano, who would also have benefited from funds from Servinabar, it becomes necessary to access their financial information in order to complete the financial study of SANTOS and his circle.”

The UCO’s proposal had the support of the case prosecutor and has been accepted by Judge Moreno. He does so within the separate part of the Koldo case in which the alleged collection of illegal commissions in exchange for the awarding of public works to several construction companies, among which Acciona stands out, is being investigated.

In the report sent to the judge last week, the UCO reflected Cerdán’s control over the income of the construction company Servinabar, of which he is estimated to have been co-owner along with businessman Antxon Alonso. The agents conclude that Cerdán had undeclared “sources of income” and that through this company he paid his own expenses for almost 10 years.

For example, he negotiated the purchase of a property for almost one million euros in the center of Madrid. This fact, together with the assets actually enjoyed, demonstrates Santos’ full control over Servinabar’s funds.

The Civil Guard confirmed that in a decade the Cerdán family had received at least 323,178.41 euros from Servinabar.
