The Government has requested the support of the European Commission, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex), and Europol for the triage work of migrants remaining in Ceuta after the massive entry on July 30 and 31.

The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, has sent a letter to the Director-General for Migration and Home Affairs of the Commission, Beate Gminder, in response to the offer she made to the Spanish Ambassador to the European Union for various community agencies to assist in the crisis.
Marlaska has requested reinforcement from Frontex, Europol, and the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA) for the device set up to manage triage and process the files of people who still remain irregularly in Ceuta.
Additionally, in the case of Frontex, the Interior Ministry has requested to extend the duration of Operation Minerva, which covers the ports of Algeciras, Tarifa, and Ceuta during the Strait Crossing operation, beyond September 2, as long as possible.
More Frontex agents and collaboration for interviews
The Government has requested 10 additional Frontex agents for triage, aiming to speed up the collection of information from migrants who have not yet undergone this procedure.
It also considers the assistance of the EUAA in conducting interviews and providing interpreters very useful, although the work of these professionals could be done remotely due to the lack of space in the city.

After completing triage and, if applicable, the border asylum procedure, the Interior Ministry will specify the Frontex assistance necessary to carry out certain returns through mediation mechanisms and bilateral agreements that the agency maintains with various countries of origin.
Marlaska reminded the European Commission that Spain requested on August 24 an emergency aid exceeding 32 million euros charged to the FAMI (Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund) and the IGFV (Instrument for Border Management and Visa), and trusts in its “prompt resolution.”
The minister has also requested that the oceanic ship Duque de Ahumada of the Civil Guard, which operates six months a year under Frontex orders, remain in Spanish waters during 2027.
Finally, the letter demands maintaining the EUROSUR Fusion Services system, operated by Frontex, which provides satellite images of the border with Morocco to monitor maritime zones, ports, coasts, and strategic pre-border areas.
Regarding Europol, the minister advocates deepening cooperation with the State Security Forces and Corps, especially in the investigation of human trafficking networks and strategic analysis.
