The first judge who opened an investigation in Madrid into the ‘Leire Díez case’ has agreed to refer the case related to alleged maneuvers by the former socialist militant against judges, prosecutors, and Civil Guard commanders to the magistrate of the National Court Santiago Pedraz, who will now fully assume the investigation.

The investigating judge Arturo Zamarriego accepts the request for inhibition that Pedraz had initiated, thus handing over his proceedings to the instructor of the National Court, who is investigating an alleged plot to disrupt judicial cases affecting the PSOE and the Government supposedly led by the former ‘number three’ of the PSOE Santos Cerdán and coordinated by Díez.
Zamarriego even charged Leire Díez, businessman Javier Pérez Dolset, and journalist Pere Rusiñol for their alleged participation in a “coordinated” plot to “gather compromising or irregular information from commanders of the Central Operative Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard and the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office”.

The judge saw indications that Díez, Dolset, and Rusiñol sought the possibility of “annulling or squandering” judicial investigations in “relevant cases” that could affect politicians and businessmen, following two complaints filed by prosecutors Ignacio Stampa and José Grinda, with whom Díez would have met to request information in exchange for economic compensation.
Zamarriego’s case originated from a complaint filed by Hazte Oír about a meeting in which Díez allegedly offered favors to businessman Alejandro Hamlyn, investigated for hydrocarbon fraud, in exchange for information.
