Three people died this Sunday and two were injured in a shooting during peak hours in the Rocío neighborhood of the town of Isla Cristina, Huelva, including a minor, according to sources from the Civil Guard.

Two hooded men on a motorcycle opened fire and then fled, in what is presumed, according to consulted sources, to be a settling of scores between clans related to drug trafficking.

Before the police arrived at the scene, dozens of people gathered in the small square where the bodies of the three murdered people lay, in a town full of tourists at this time of year. While the first sirens were heard, several neighbors timidly approached the bodies to try to find out who they were, while others tried to leave the crime scene as best they could.

Frequent shootings
In just two years there have been five deaths in settling of scores between drug traffickers in this Andalusian region. The El Torrejón neighborhood in Huelva became a war zone two years ago. In just a month and a half there were three shootings between rival clans. A man was killed by his brother-in-law in Violeta square and another survived despite the bullet lodged in his brain. The alleged perpetrator, known as El Baba, was arrested in Gijón. But this did not calm the tensions. Shortly after, the victim’s relatives decided to take justice into their own hands and showed up at the house of El Baba’s family. There were two shootings, although this time there were no victims to lament.
Just a few days ago, the government subdelegate in Huelva, María José Rico, defended the “firm and determined commitment” to make “persistent pressure” against criminal organizations dedicated to drug trafficking and their logistical network so that “they do not settle on the ground.”
