The Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, has reiterated that in the days prior to July 30, the moment of the massive entry of immigrants into Ceuta from the border with Morocco, “there was no communication” that “tens of thousands of people” were going to arrive in the autonomous city.

In this way, Torres has supported the statements of the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, who in a press conference of the Council of Ministers emphasized that the Government did not receive “any report” from the National Intelligence Center (CNI) about the massive entry of migrants into Ceuta because, if they had known, the Executive would have activated extraordinary measures to prevent it.
He stated this after the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, assured in the Defense Commission of the Congress that the CNI agents did their job in the days prior to the massive entry in Ceuta, monitored the situation and transferred their analyses to the Security Forces and the Government Delegation, which knew that a swimming entry was scheduled due to the Moroccan holiday.
For the Minister of Territorial Policy, Marlaska was “clear” with his statements since every day “the situation in Ceuta is reported,” where “there had been an increase of about a thousand people in seven days,” but “in no case was there any communication that we were going to have an arrival of tens of thousands of people”.

“He was clear in his statement and I think it was practically an ‘on-site’ response to what the minister’s intervention was,” he said in an interview on Cadena Ser.
“Own reflection”
Regarding the criticisms of the Minister of Defense, who acknowledged in parliament that they “had arrived late” in Ceuta, Torres framed these statements within “a personal reflection” made by Robles, although he admitted, regarding the response to the crisis, that “things can always be improved”.
However, he stressed that “it is not easy” to face “a crisis of this magnitude,” while defending that the Government is working “with the greatest effort” and giving their all “to try to achieve that normality.”
