Two of the unknowns raised by the purchase and sale of the controversial penthouse in Chamberí were cleared up this Friday, after the Community of Madrid published on its Contracting Portal the market launch of the property at General Martínez Campos 35, for 6.7 million euros, and the already started works at the Real Casa de Correos.

As reiterated by Isabel Díaz Ayuso herself and her Minister of the Presidency, Miguel Ángel García, who is responsible for the Planifica Madrid competencies, the amount obtained from the five properties offered, including the one on Martínez Campos, will report around 19 million euros, which will be added to the budget planned for the reconstruction of the Sierra Oeste. They will be awarded to the best economic offer, with the deadline of September 7. The income will be applied in the corresponding dividend distribution of the company in this same fiscal year.
As detailed on the portal, the Chamberí penthouse dates from 1957 and has an area of 481 square meters, in a residential building with a terrace and in a closed block, which finishes the corner of General Martínez Campos promenade with Zurbano street.
On the Community portal, images of the interior of the dwelling can be seen, whose initial purchase price three months ago, according to El País, was 6.3 million. If it were now sold for 6.7, the Community would recover almost all of what was invested. Taking the figure of 6.3 million as accurate and considering that the purchase expenses are set at approximately 7% of that value (441,000 euros), the Community would have spent about 6.74 million, an amount almost identical to the one requested in the offer known this Friday.
While the four properties on Gran Vía, located at number 6, have a usable area of 1,132 square meters, in a building that has a total of 9,045 square meters, and are put up for sale with an initial price of 11.8 million euros. Located at the beginning of Gran Vía, it is a century-old property, which was built in 1917 under the commission of the Marquis of Urquijo by architects José María Mendoza and José de Aragón and was originally intended for housing. The building is fully protected for its architectural quality.
In addition, as detailed by the Community of Madrid, another apartment of the public company will also be put up for sale, located at Pedro Moreno street, 3 and with a built area of 459.92 square meters, with the same purpose as the controversial lot.
WORKS IN SOL
In parallel, the rehabilitation of the Real Casa de Correos for which the president initially justified the purchase of the controversial penthouse in Chamberí has already started. This was also published this Friday by the Community of Madrid on its Contracting Portal, clarifying another of the misunderstandings raised after last week’s criticized operation.
The renovation in the current headquarters of the regional Government, protected as a Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) in the Monument category, will be carried out on the second institutional floor and in the historic courtyards. Estimated to last 12 months, the works in the offices of the Presidency of the regional Executive will affect the floors, structures, carpentry, and lighting installations.
Meanwhile, in the historic courtyards, it is planned to renew the vertical and horizontal coatings of the interior institutional areas and to update the paintings, restore wooden carpentry, and other ornamental elements. Awnings will be installed in the roof skylight to improve the environmental conditions of these spaces.
In addition, modernization of the building’s air conditioning installations will be carried out, aiming to improve its energy efficiency and reduce consumption, in an adaptation that is also expected to continue during 2027 and 2028.
