The cases of military personnel from the contingent deployed to Ceuta to support the security forces who have contracted scabies have already risen to 24, of which two are prior to the massive entry of immigrants.

The Ministry of Defense has issued a statement following complaints from the Union of Troop Soldiers (UMT) and the Spanish Troop and Navy Association (ATME), who had requested information on the matter.
Thus, the department assures that the cause is not related to contact that military personnel may have had with immigrants who arrived in recent days.
It explains that this is a common infection in areas of high humidity and that measures have been taken both to care for those infected and to proceed with the sanitization of the facilities.
All are receiving the treatment recommended by health authorities after the diagnosis was confirmed.
The Health Headquarters of the General Command of Ceuta has established a protocol of action with the aim of preventing new cases, early detection of military personnel with symptoms, and applying the same action circuit in all units.
Previously, the Union of Troop Soldiers (UMT) had reported in a statement that the outbreak affects at least 14 soldiers from the same company of the Ceuta Regulars Group No. 54.
According to this association, the origin of the contagion points directly to the conditions in which the personnel were housed last Saturday, August 15, in the former K-8 Coastal Battery (García Aldave), “facilities usually out of use, without the required hygienic maintenance, with known history of similar infestations and in a situation of overcrowding.”
The Spanish Troop and Navy Association (ATME) had already previously warned of the possible appearance of contagious diseases, “probably scabies,” among military personnel deployed in the autonomous city, and had therefore requested “precise” information from the Ministry of Defense on the matter.
On the other hand, the Unified Association of Spanish Military (AUME) has requested the suspension or postponement of the September 20 anniversary events of the Legion in Ceuta, at least regarding the participation and organization by the units currently deployed and “overburdened by the crisis.”
AUME considers that “accumulating the burden of the migration crisis with the preparations for an event of this nature constitutes an intolerable overload that exceeds the limit of what is reasonable.”
