Police deployment to locate the two hooded men who shot and killed three people in the street in Isla Cristina

The National Police and the Civil Guard maintain special operations this Tuesday to try to locate the two hooded men who on Sunday night shot several people in the street in the town of Isla Cristina, Huelva. The shots ended the lives of a 62-year-old woman, her 39-year-old daughter who was eight months pregnant, and a 16-year-old minor. Two young people were also injured.

The incident, according to investigators, is due to a «settling of scores» related to family disputes over drug trafficking, although «no hypothesis» is ruled out. In fact, the two deceased women and the most seriously injured person are relatives of Baba, who is accused of killing a man in a shooting in 2024 in the El Torrejón neighborhood of the capital of Huelva. The deceased minor, named Hugo, 16 years old, and another injured young man are completely unrelated to the rival clans.

Precisely in the El Torrejón neighborhood, the National Police have also been deployed, as well as in Pérez Cubillas in Huelva, where relatives of the rival clans might reside. The special operations near the funeral homes have already been withdrawn. Investigators’ efforts are now focused on locating the perpetrators of the shootings who remain at large this Tuesday.

They fled the crime scene on a motorcycle which was later set on fire in a pine forest area near a campsite in Isla Cristina to mislead the authorities. A fire outbreak was recorded but was quickly extinguished. Regarding the weapon used, the Civil Guard has avoided giving details because the case is under court secrecy.

Criticism of Sánchez’s Government

Meanwhile, the Andalusian Government, led by Juanma Moreno, criticized Pedro Sánchez’s Government this Tuesday for «dereliction of duties» regarding drug trafficking, but the Government Delegation in Andalusia has boasted about its management and released a flood of data showing that more is being invested in the fight against drug trafficking and that there are more police officers.

According to sources from the central government, since 2018, the central government has allocated more than 190 million to the Special Plan against drug trafficking in Andalusia, which is already deployed in six provinces and maintains a 94% staffing coverage. This year, 38.2 million were allocated to this plan, 1.3 million more than in 2025.

In addition to investments, there has been an increase in personnel of the State Security Forces and Corps. Andalusia has nearly 30,500 civil guards and police officers, 4,096 more than at the end of 2018, according to figures released this Tuesday.

Regarding the results of the Campo de Gibraltar Security Plan from 2018 to 2025, 47,862 police operations have been recorded, 31,335 arrests or investigations, 2,179,973 kilos of drugs seized, and 1,884 firearms confiscated. The regional government does not find this sufficient and has requested the reactivation of the Coordinating Body for Anti-Drug Operations (OCON-Sur).
