The Civil Guard confirmed this Wednesday the location of the weapons allegedly used by the hooded men who killed three people in the shooting that took place this Sunday in the town of Isla Cristina, Huelva, caused by a settling of scores related to family feuds between clans linked to drug trafficking.

Sources from the Civil Guard have reported the discovery of at least two weapons, which will be sent to the Ballistics Service for analysis. Once the technical study is completed, the weapons and the report will be sent to the judicial authority investigating the case.
Meanwhile, the police deployment continues to try to locate the perpetrators of the shooting who fled the crime scene on a motorcycle that was later set on fire in a pine forest area near a campsite in Isla Cristina to mislead the authorities. A fire outbreak was recorded but was quickly extinguished.
Civil Guard agents maintain an active search operation for the killers and also a deployment at various points in the province of Huelva to prevent confrontations and incidents between the rival clans involved in the shooting, according to sources from Benemérita detailed to EL MUNDO.
The National Police have also deployed in the Torrejón neighborhood and in Pérez Cubillas, both in Huelva, where relatives of the rival clans might reside. The special deployments near the funeral homes have already been withdrawn.
In the shooting, a 62-year-old woman, her 39-year-old daughter who was eight months pregnant, and a 16-year-old minor died. Two young people were also injured. According to investigators, the incident is due to a «settling of scores», although «no hypothesis» is ruled out. In fact, the two deceased women and the most seriously injured are relatives of Baba, who is accused of killing a man in a shooting in 2024 in the El Torrejón neighborhood of the capital of Huelva. The deceased minor, named Hugo, 16 years old, and another injured young man are completely unrelated to the rival clans.
So far, the Civil Guard has not provided any information about the type of weapons used by the killers, given the secrecy of the case decreed by the investigating judge after the incident, which remains active this Wednesday.
“Extreme vulnerability” of the guards
Meanwhile, the Unified Association of Civil Guards (AUGC) reproached this Wednesday the “extreme abandonment, vulnerability, and unsustainability suffered daily by the civil guards deployed on Spain’s southern border, where organized crime and narcocriminal groups act with violence and impunity never seen before in the country’s recent history.”
This was alerted by the AUGC after the “tragic and intolerable events” in Isla Cristina, with three deaths by gunfire, added to the “continuous and impune attacks on patrol boats, ramming with drug-running boats, and direct assaults on agents in Cádiz, Huelva, Almería, and the entire Strait area.”

For the association, this shows that “criminal organizations have lost all respect for authority.” Therefore, the AUGC criticizes the Ministry of the Interior for continuing to respond with “inaction, propaganda patches, and a worrying lack of human and material resources.”
For this reason, “we demand the creation of a specific economic compensation that recognizes the extreme risk to which civil guards are exposed daily on Spain’s southern border, as well as the immediate reinstatement of OCON-Sur. We cannot allow the Government to keep looking the other way while the coast and surrounding areas fall into absolute chaos.”
In addition to the bonus, the AUGC calls for the “immediate adoption” of the Declaration of Zone of Special Singularity (ZES) for the entire area of influence of drug trafficking in Andalusia and the southern border, and the restructuring and recovery of OCON-Sur. Finally, it requests the “massive update of material resources and a toughening of penalties for attacks on law enforcement officers and effective seizure of assets from drug trafficking networks.”
Tourist town
The latest deadly shooting, which occurred in a tourist town and in a neighborhood located less than a kilometer from the beaches and luxury hotels of Isla Cristina, has caused a confrontation between the Andalusian Executive, presided over by Juanma Moreno, and Pedro Sánchez’s Government, which it accuses of «dereliction of duties» regarding drug trafficking.
However, the Government Delegation in Andalusia has boasted about its management and has released a flood of data that would demonstrate that more is being invested in the fight against drug trafficking and that there are more police officers.
According to sources from the central government, since 2018, the central government has allocated more than 190 million to the Special Plan against drug trafficking in Andalusia, which is already deployed in six provinces and maintains a 94% staffing coverage rate. This year, 38.2 million were allocated to this plan, 1.3 million more than in 2025.
Investments are joined by the increase in personnel of the State Security Forces and Corps. Andalusia has nearly 30,500 civil guards and police officers, 4,096 more than at the end of 2018, according to figures released this Tuesday.
Regarding the results of the Campo de Gibraltar Security Plan from 2018 to 2025, 47,862 police operations have been recorded, 31,335 arrests or investigations, 2,179,973 kilos of drugs seized, and 1,884 firearms confiscated. The Junta does not find this sufficient and has requested the reactivation of the Coordinating Body for Anti-Drug Operations (OCON-Sur).
