Sánchez will appear on September 3 in Congress, one month after the start of the Ceuta crisis, to avoid being forced by his partners

One month after the massive arrival of 80,000 people in Ceuta, the Government has announced the appearance, at his own request, of Pedro Sánchez in Congress on September 3 at 9:00 a.m. to provide explanations about this migratory crisis.

In this way, the head of the Executive anticipates the decision of the Permanent Deputation – the body that regulates parliamentary activity outside the ordinary session period -, which this Wednesday must rule on the PP’s request for him to be held accountable for an avalanche that has triggered a clash of versions between Defense and Interior. The initiative, of an extraordinary nature, could have been approved with the support of some of the coalition partners and should have been held before September 1.

Moncloa conveyed this Tuesday that, after returning from his summer vacation in Lanzarote, Sánchez was willing to attend Congress “as soon as possible”, but without specifying any concrete date. It was only a few hours before he could be forced by the opposition to do so that the official information was conveyed that he will do so at his own request.

The Permanent Deputation of the Chamber debates and votes this Wednesday on 14 initiatives registered by the PP to urgently request the appearance of Sánchez and 10 ministers, most of whom have anticipated and requested to do so voluntarily. Tuesday was the turn of Defense, Margarita Robles, and the round will continue on Thursday with the heads of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, Territorial Policy and Health, Mónica García.

On Friday, the heads of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, and Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz portfolios will appear before their respective committees. And next Monday, the Equality, Ana Redondo, and Youth and Childhood, Sira Rego, portfolios will do the same.

For now, the most controversial appearance a priori will be Marlaska’s after Robles dismantled his version that there was “no report that hinted that on July 30 what finally happened was going to happen.” The Defense Minister argued in her appearance on Tuesday that the CNI did alert the Government Delegation in the autonomous city of the “call for the next day to enter by swimming” taking advantage of the holiday in Morocco.
