“Unfortunately, the death toll in the Bucha district has risen to 37. A terrible and irreparable loss,” wrote the head of the Kiev regional administration, Timur Tkachenko, on his Telegram account. The work of rescue teams and all relevant services continues at the site of the tragedy.

In an initial count, Tkachenko had mentioned 27 dead, although he warned that this figure was not final, and 42 injured of varying severity, including 4 children. Additionally, nearly 400 people had to be evacuated from the area.

At the same time, buildings and adjacent grounds to the warehouse, where an explosion occurred after the attack, are being inspected.

So far, there is evidence of about fifty residential buildings that have suffered damage of varying severity, he added.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that “those who allowed this to happen must be held accountable for their decisions.”

“There are clear rules: ammunition cannot be stored near homes or other residential areas. Without a doubt, the relevant conclusions will be drawn,” he assured.

In a similar incident in Vishneve, in the Kiev region, last July 6, nine people died after a prolonged detonation occurred in ammunition warehouses following a Russian attack, which also caused damage to more than 280 homes.

“In the fifth year of a large-scale war, we cannot allow tragedies like the one in Vishneve and this one in the Bucha district to be repeated,” wrote Tkachenko, who added that Sunday has been declared a day of mourning in the Kiev region for the victims of this Russian attack.
