A forest fire declared in the Collserola Natural Park, adjacent to Barcelona and visible from the city and various points in the metropolitan area. About twenty firefighter units are working to extinguish a fire that started in the area of the Carretera de les Aigües around 3:30 PM, affecting the mountain area of Sant Pere Màrtir.
Ten of the units belong to the Barcelona Firefighters and another ten to the Generalitat Firefighters, who have also provided a helicopter. Emergency services are operating in an area very close to the Catalan capital and municipalities such as Esplugues.
As a result of the fire, the Esplugues City Council has evacuated the Espai Mireia restaurant as a precaution and asks citizens not to approach the area to facilitate firefighting efforts.
In fact, the Barcelona City Council activated the municipal action plan alert this Friday due to the risk of forest fire following the Generalitat’s activation of level 3 of the Alfa plan in Barcelonès and the very high risk due to the intense heatwave hitting Catalonia these days.
Emergency services have received nearly a thousand calls from neighbors and citizens in less than an hour to report the fire and the significant smoke column generated.
