Feijóo invokes a Spain "that resembles its national team more" and mobilizes his mayors against "the plundering by the PSOE"

The PP wants to have the electoral machinery ready already and that is why it has ratified and presented this Saturday its candidates to govern in the capitals, 10 months before the local elections on May 23, 2027. To all of them, Alberto Núñez Feijóo has asked them to take as an example the men’s football team that you have to “play as a team, without ego“.

“In the face of this Government’s ‘me, me, me’, the neighbors come first, don’t forget it,” he urged his cadres during the PP candidacy presentation event, held at the City of Culture in Santiago de Compostela. “Values, hard work, humility and faith, that is the coach’s [Luis de la Fuente] recipe and that is also the lesson for politics; I would like Spain to be more like its team,” he continued.

“I want a Spain where effort is rewarded, because most of Spain already is like that,” and “we only need a Government up to the level of Spain,” Feijóo added. For this, he asked the candidates to “improve” the 2023 result: “Let’s not give up on leaving the PSOE at zero, because it deserves it.”

Feijóo demanded “decency, service and ambition” from his candidates. “From today you are candidates to win in your cities, but also to work, with humility, for change in Spain. Stand up for Spain, which needs us more than ever and only has us!” he exhorted, before asking them to turn the town halls into “fortresses against socialist plundering“.

“There are still more than a dozen corrupt networks in the courts,” he listed, and “there is already a sentence in institutional corruption,” referring to the Attorney General, “there is already a sentence in political corruption,” for José Luis Ábalos, “and there is already a sentence in family prevarication,” for David Sánchez, the president’s brother.

In that context, Feijóo threw a jab at PSOE critics: “Whoever in the PSOE wants Sánchez to leave, say it and act,” he assured, “because whoever stays silent is complicit.” “You have to choose: either with Sánchez or with decency. And whoever chooses Sánchez will have to leave with him,” he predicted.

The host, Alfonso Rueda, president of the Xunta de Galicia, assured that the Galician candidates will conquer the mayoralties of the major cities in this community, which they did not achieve in 2023 due to not having absolute majorities. “We will not fail you,” he told him, after anticipating that “all this lost time, all this constant mistreatment, all this divisive will” will be corrected.

Before them, the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, invoked for the PP the spirit of Luis Aragonés: “Win, win and win and win again“. Feijóo took up that gauntlet and paraphrased the wise man from Hortaleza to close the event.
