The Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, announced that the Government will withdraw Ceuta’s sports centers as migrant reception centers and enable new spaces.

At the press conference following the meeting of the Monitoring Committee on the situation in the Autonomous City of Ceuta, which Torres himself chaired, the minister assured that “the sports centers will be removed from that royal decree in its next update and other spaces will be included“.
The Official State Gazette (BOE) published this Wednesday the royal decree declaring Ceuta’s ‘situation of interest for national security’ , with new spaces enabled, including sports centers, to host immigrants who remain in the autonomous city almost a month after the massive entry.
Likewise, the minister explained that there are spaces that have been used in the past in other crises and insisted that the objective and plan is that “all those who entered” be returned, but that, for this, they must have the spaces beforehand.

“We are now searching for these spaces, through consensus, through dialogue with the government of Ceuta, as much as possible, because we want to have them as soon as possible, because above all, which is what I also want to convey to the community, the sooner we have people in the spaces, the sooner they can also be returned,” he said, while also emphasizing that the Executive does not want to affect coexistence in Ceuta.
Similarly, Torres explained that the Government’s plan is for “all the people who remained in Ceuta from the 31st onwards” to return in accordance with the law. However, he added that for them to return, migrants must be confined to spaces to proceed with their identification.
