It was foreseeable and it is already happening. It is not an avalanche by any means, but a significant number of Moroccans who stormed Ceuta in recent days are arriving at the beaches of the Campo de Gibraltar.
Police sources consulted by EL MUNDO have estimated around twenty have already been located. The Local Police of Algeciras have intercepted five in the coastal area of La Ballenera, in the Getares area, and also in Punta Carnero. Another small group has also managed to reach land on the Levante beach in La Línea de la Concepción and it is not ruled out that the trickle will continue in the coming hours and days. Something that “usually happens, but now with what happened in Ceuta everything seems more complex,” the sources consulted by this newspaper indicate.
The goal is to return them, as soon as possible, to Morocco or, failing that, they will be interned in the CIE de Botafuegos, the new facility that opened in Algeciras a few months ago.
The delegate of Citizen Security of the Algeciras City Council, Jacinto Muñoz, has explained that the arrival of boats with immigrants to the regional coasts is “relatively common“.
Likewise, and in view of possible unofficial statements or comments on social networks, he has made it clear that “no order has been given to the residents of the coastal areas due to the presence of these people.” The action has simply been carried out following the usual protocol and they are already in the hands of the Foreigners Brigade of the National Police.
However, Muñoz has emphasized that although these actions may be related to what happened in the city of Ceuta in recent days, “it is up to the Government of Spain to exercise the powers in border control and coastal surveillance.” That is why he has called on the Executive of Pedro Sánchez, “to take the necessary measures to guarantee the security and integrity of the borders by providing more material and human resources to the State Security Forces and Corps.”
