Atypical and tense festive day in the autonomous city of Ceuta. Two weeks after the entry of thousands of immigrants, the border of Tarajal is taken, on both sides by National Police and Civil Guard forces and by the Moroccan army which has also deployed forces through the mountains, beaches, and roads. The goal is to prevent the massive arrival of another contingent like the one at the end of July.
Meanwhile, the situation is by no means what it was before the massive entry at the end of July. According to Onda Cero and confirmed by EL MUNDO, the Civil Guard has already identified 15 rapes in different parts of the city since then.
The last of these rapes occurred on Friday night, on Lisboa street, when three people, apparently brothers according to the cited sources, tried to sexually abuse a 10-year-old girl.
To this must be added continuous altercations in the streets, of greater or lesser intensity, and wandering through numerous neighborhoods, although most concentrate on El Trampolín beach, where thousands of young people come and go aimlessly.
The cited Civil Guard sources have confirmed that 1,800 minors have already been identified and have been given an identification wristband. “The problem is that then they are returned to the street, they neither go to the Ceti nor are they returned to Morocco,” they say.
It is worth noting that in the last week, voluntarily, the agents have counted 1,500 people who have returned, on their own accord, to the neighboring country. However, despite this control of minors, thousands are still found in scattered areas such as schools in the El Príncipe neighborhood or in some warehouses near the border.
Meanwhile, the streets of Ceuta are practically empty and the beaches do not at all look like a normal August 15. The few establishments that are open (mainly supermarkets) remain guarded by the military who, along with nearly 1,500 Civil Guard and National Police forces, are deployed throughout the municipality.
On the other hand, police sources have confirmed to EL MUNDO that the work at the border, where activity is incessant, is not carried out under the best conditions. “The air conditioning does not work,” and the identification checks barely function and the arrival of a new inspector has caused some confusion. “He has removed the shifts at the border and keeps them in other instances.”
Precisely at these controls, the Civil Guard has confirmed the arrest of a citizen who had records for terrorism and various other crimes. He even had an arrest warrant from Interpol.
He is being held in Ceuta awaiting completion of all procedures for his extradition.
