Dozens of Ceutíes have protested outside the Coronel Fisher Barracks and the autonomous Government of Ceuta led by its mayor-president since 2001, Juan Jesús Vivas, complained this Tuesday about the sites reserved by the Royal Decree promoted by the central Government to accommodate the nearly 10,000 Maghreb and Sub-Saharan migrants who remain in the city after the influx of July 30 and 31.
The citizens and their City Council complain that the sites determined in the Royal Decree, not yet published but whose content has leaked and to which EL MUNDO has had access, are located within populated areas of the enclave, when Vivas had offered the Government of Pedro Sánchez two large spaces whose use would not hinder the normal life of the Ceutíes, already very worn out after 27 days of migrants’ presence in their streets, in a situation of maximum unhealthiness, with hardly any activity from the central State.
Those two sites were the El Tarajal warehouses, where about 1,000 people, including women and children, already live waiting for a solution, and some land ceded by the City Council to the Boy Scouts near the Calamocarro beach.
However, the Royal Decree reserves for the migrants sports centers of schools and institutes such as Puertas del Campo, Santa Amelia, La Libertad and Antonio Campoamor, some Primary and others Secondary, but where in any case classes should start in less than two weeks, they point out in the local Government.
The city also complains that the use for migrants of sports centers such as Guillermo Molina and Díaz Flor, also included by the Government among the infrastructures, will prevent all sports activity for the Ceutíes. And the inclusion in these spaces of the Coronel Fisher barracks itself, where citizens were protesting today, and the Flour Factory is also censured, as they are spaces in very populated areas.
The local Executive also denounces that a time horizon of December 31 has been set for the single command among the provisions of the Royal Decree, when it is more than likely that the extreme situation the city is experiencing will not have been resolved by then, and it is also censured that the essential objective of proceeding with the return of migrants who do not have the right to remain in Spain as soon as possible has not been mentioned in the document.
