The judge of the National Court María Tardón has summoned as witnesses the president of the Autonomous City of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, and the former Chief of Staff of the Government Delegation Gonzalo Sanz in the case investigating the massive irregular entry of immigrants into Ceuta from Morocco on July 30 and 31.

In an order in which multiple proceedings are agreed upon, she requests from numerous police and military bodies the alerts and risk analyses that they may have issued in relation to these events. If any exist, she asks that the recipients and the means used for their communication and dissemination be specified, with an indication of the date and time they took place.
The magistrate summons Vivas for September 30 and the former Chief of Staff for October 1. On the same day, October 1, she agrees to also take testimony as a witness from the head of the Local Police of Ceuta.
The judge considers these testimonies “priority” given “the need to know, directly, the information that was available before the events, the existing forecasts, the evolution of the situation, and the specific circumstances that determined the operational collapse.” After these statements, and once the requested reports have been received, she will call to testify those who prepared them.
The summons of Gonzalo Sanz comes a few days after his resignation, motivated by the statement of the Government delegate, Miguel Ángel Pérez Triano, that he did not transmit the alert he had received from the CNI about the border. The then Chief of Staff maintains that he did.
Tardón has just assumed the competence to investigate the Government delegate for various crimes included in the complaints and lawsuits filed against him. Among them, his possible responsibility in the death of 83 people drowned or crushed between July 30 and 31 on the Spanish side of the border.
