Sánchez landed at 13:07 hours (Canary time) at César Manrique-Lanzarote airport aboard a Falcon plane of the Air Force and, around 13:30 hours, accessed the La Mareta complex by van.

The head of the Executive usually chooses Lanzarote to enjoy different rest periods since 2020, especially in summer, but also at Easter or Christmas.

According to Diario de Lanzarote, the Maritime Captaincy of Las Palmas has established a temporary exclusion zone for navigation off the coast of the Lanzarote municipality of Teguise from this Saturday until next August 24 for security reasons. The first meeting of the Council of Ministers after the summer break will take place on Tuesday August 25.

Before starting his vacation, Sánchez has maintained in recent days an institutional agenda marked by the evolution of forest fires on the peninsula and by migratory pressure in Ceuta, where he traveled this Friday to address the increase in irregular arrivals, which rose to more than 50,000 this week according to the Ministry of the Interior.

La Mareta is a complex originally built for Hussein of Jordan, who gave it as a gift at the end of the 1980s to King Juan Carlos I.

The Royal House made this residence available to the National Heritage in 2015, where heads of State or Government have stayed, such as the German chancellors Helmut Kohl and Gerhard Schröder, the president of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev, the Czech president Václav Havel, or the Spanish presidents José María Aznar, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, and Pedro Sánchez himself.

During some of his previous stays, Sánchez has coincided on the island with some members of his Government, such as the current president of Catalonia, Salvador Illa, and has received visits from members of his cabinet, such as the Canarian minister Ángel Víctor Torres.

Last year he held a working meeting with the president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, at the headquarters of the Lanzarote Cabildo.
