“Today Ceuta is not a free city.” José María Aznar believes that the Ceuta crisis “is going to get worse every day,” because “Spain is yielding to the interests of the responsible state, which is Morocco.” And why is it doing so? So that “the people of Ceuta leave Ceuta,” he opines. That is, in his view, “exactly the policy being followed” from La Moncloa.
On the other hand, the former Prime Minister from 1996 to 2004 advocates “deploying” the Army in Ceuta. “Should it be militarized? The answer is yes, without any doubt,” he stated on Espejo Público. The territorial integrity of Spain has been broken with thousands of soldiers in Ceuta watching how territorial integrity was broken, and the Government’s reaction, in an unprecedented case in history, is to side with the inventors, not defend the country,” he replied.
“The military have a constitutional obligation to defend the country and the Government has the constitutional obligation to guarantee our borders,” the former ‘popular’ president added.
“And everything else is cowardice, incompetence, and treason; all three,” he emphasized, aware of the weight of his words, at a time when Vox is calling to prosecute the Prime Minister for treason. Asked about this, Aznar said that “at this moment, what is needed is to present Spaniards with a future project” and not generate “frustration” among voters.
If the Ceuta crisis is not resolved now, “Spain has every right to request a review of the policy with Morocco and to encourage that review in the European Union.” But Aznar has “no doubt” that Sánchez wants to chronify the crisis to grow the far right.
On another note, Aznar stated that the so-called Grandchildren Law is an “alteration of the electoral census to obtain electoral advantages,” and that is “absolutely intolerable.”

While the former PP leader gave his interview on Antena 3, the current president of his party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, was attending the media in Melilla. “The Government is not capable of maintaining public order in a Spanish city, it has not been able to do so in the last 50 days,” he claimed, before warning that Ceuta is “a powder keg” about to explode.
For Feijóo, as for Aznar, we are facing an “invasion” and not an arrival of immigrants. “We have confirmed that this is not immigration. Immigrants do not confront the Police, immigrants try to find a job, even if they are regular immigrants. These gentlemen do not come to look for a job, they come to confront constitutional public order and the State Security Forces,” he stressed.
For the opposition leader, “the only solution is the expulsion and return of all citizens as the European Parliament agreed yesterday and as Morocco says it is willing to accept. It cannot be done worse and Ceuta is a powder keg – we have been saying it for some time – and the situation is unsustainable,” he concluded.
Later, at the event he held alongside Juan José Imbroda, president of Melilla, Feijóo stated that if he governs, “there will be a reaction” to a massive entry into the territory. And not “the greatest embarrassment” remembered in Spain, which is, in his opinion, what is happening.
