ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and practically all known Western AI companies stopped working almost simultaneously around 5:00 PM and were not fully restored until after 7:00 PM, with Anthropic’s chatbot being the most affected.
The chatbot tools of all these companies began showing error messages or stopped loading responses almost simultaneously in a failure that early versions point to a problem with one of the major cloud service providers. There have also been incidents when trying to log in to the platforms.
According to the Downdetector website, the incident has spread to other providers such as Groq, Elon Musk’s AI, and Amazon Web Services and initial hypotheses attribute this problem to a sudden increase in traffic on these applications that caused the collapse of some of the digital routes of the Cloudflare platform, which provides services to all these companies.
In some cases like Claude, the assistant denied having problems functioning, but then was unable to load more responses or even search the web. None of the companies have detailed the exact technical reason why these errors occurred.
The collapse happened amid a surge in the world of artificial intelligence. This week, Google first and then Meta presented new language models that match or surpass the capabilities of those from Anthropic or Open AI. Precisely, this Thursday, the second of these companies will present its Astra model, which is presumed to be the most advanced to date, but precise details of its performance are still unknown.
