The President of the Government has described this Friday the arrival of thousands of immigrants in Ceuta as “an attack on the integrity of Spain.” In an institutional statement from the autonomous city, Pedro Sánchez avoided blaming Morocco, limiting himself to applauding its “cooperation” in repatriation efforts, and pointed out that the cause of this “avalanche” is the “biased interpretation” of the Supreme Court ruling made by the “mafias that traffic in people.”
What the head of the Executive refers to is the judicial ruling ratified at all levels that excludes from the cases in which the rejection of foreigners is foreseen to “prevent their illegal entry” those who arrive without “overcoming border containment elements.” That is, those who do so by swimming via the sea through a coast that lacks buoys.
Sánchez has attended the coordination meeting of this migratory crisis in which the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, and the Ceuta president, Juan Jesús Vivas, have also participated.
During his speech, the head of the Executive said that the Government takes charge of the “emotional state” and the situation of anguish that the citizens of Ceuta have been experiencing in recent hours.
The number of bodies found in recent hours on the coast of Ceuta has risen to 24, after another six bodies were recovered throughout this morning, following the massive entry of people from Morocco, police sources told Efe.
