The administration of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, confirmed this Thursday that it has authorized the Iranian delegation, led by President Masud Pezeshkian, to travel to New York to participate next week in the UN General Assembly, a visit that will take place amid the ongoing war between Washington and Tehran.

“In compliance with our obligations as the host country, the main delegation of the Iranian regime will be able to attend the High-Level Week of the UN General Assembly,” a State Department spokesperson told the press.
The source specified that the Iranian delegation will be smaller than last year’s, when the United States already denied visas to several members of the press team who intended to accompany Pezeshkian to New York.
As in 2025, the Iranian representatives will be subject to restrictions during their stay in the city, including a ban on purchasing luxury goods.
Pezeshkian is scheduled to deliver his speech before the General Assembly next Wednesday, although the trip had been surrounded by uncertainty, as Tehran stated on Monday that the leader had not yet received his visa.
The visit comes more than six months after the war launched by the United States and Israel against Iran began, an offensive that has not achieved its goal of overthrowing the ayatollahs’ regime, and after several failed attempts to negotiate a peace agreement.
Although the United States and Iran do not maintain official diplomatic relations, the Islamic Republic has diplomats accredited to the United Nations, which obliges Washington, under the UN Headquarters Agreement, to facilitate their entry and stay in the country.
During this summer’s World Cup, the Iranian team faced restrictions that forced them to concentrate in the Mexican city of Tijuana, on the border with the United States, and to enter US territory only to play their matches.
