The Government will “immediately” enable four new spaces in Ceuta to accommodate 1,500 foreigners in irregular situations who remain in the autonomous city. The announcement, made this Monday by the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations, Elma Saiz, comes 18 days after the avalanche in which 80,000 people crossed by sea from Morocco amid the passivity of the neighboring country’s authorities.

The spokesperson for the central government also pointed out that they continue to try to respond to this crisis with the “improvement and expansion” of available resources and that “the collaboration of institutions is essential to recover normality.” “I also want to recognize and thank the great work of other social entities and neighborhood associations that are attending to the humanitarian situation,” she added.
Among the new places where immigrants who remain exposed to the elements will be located are three of state ownership: the equestrian facilities, the old football field of the Cavalry barracks, and the El Guano space. The fourth, the parking lot of the bottleneck, in Loma Colmenar, is owned by Ceuta.
Saiz did not want to confront the president of the autonomous city, Juan Jesús Vivas, who this Monday warned that he will go to the Judiciary due to the “passivity” of the Government of Pedro Sánchez regarding the Ceuta crisis. In this regard, the minister emphasized that “what the citizens expect is collaboration between administrations” and referred to another statement by the PP leader, that “all Ceutans are Spanish, regardless of whom they pray to and what their names are.”

The Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations highlights the extraordinary transfer of almost 6.5 million euros to strengthen care, reception, and social-health assistance in this migratory crisis and that “from the beginning” the Red Cross has distributed approximately 4,000 daily food kits, feminine hygiene products, and has provided 4,000 medical attentions.
For his part, Sánchez presided this Monday over the second coordination meeting, by videoconference from La Mareta (Lanzarote), on the current situation in Ceuta after the massive entry of immigrants. In addition to Saiz, the first vice president and Minister of Economy, Carlos Cuerpo; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares; the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles; the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska; the Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres; and the Minister of Youth and Childhood, Sira Rego participated.
